This is the check a pro radio show check a pro Joe has assembled a team of pre-qualified home service contractors to bring you the latest in services products and techniques now here's your host the man with a hard hat and tool belt check a pro Joe we turn the water on and we expect the water to drain down the waste sometimes it doesn't we'll flush the toilet we expect the waste in the toilet bowl to be exhausted through into the sewer system sometimes that doesn't work out well I've asked my good friend Bob Mueller he's from personal plumbing to come join me here on the program today to help answer some frequently asked questions and this is a big one hey Bob how are you I'm doing great Joe thanks for having me hey it's so great to have you here so question is how frequently should we be cleaning our plumbing drains great question this one actually has many answers and of course it's going to be typically age dependent of your home and how frequently you've had you know your plumbing system service so there's a lot of questions that need to be answered first when you ask that question but I would say that that you know you could start with looking at the age of your house and if your house is even more than 25 years old you're probably at a point where you're ready to just do regular maintenance on your house and obviously if you're living in a a newer home that's got some of the newer type plumbing in there such as your ABS materials things like that you're probably less prone to it blocking up on you having issues but of course it also depends on you know how you use your plumbing so some people will over abuse their plumbing by putting in what they consider to be the flushable wipes these days as well as how much they abused their kitchens ran by you know what materials going down that drain some people will put excessive amount of grease fats and oils inside there of course egg shells and coffee grounds all these things are horrible for your drain system and what type of materials you put inside there other than you know these things I mean some people will use their drains for their garbage system they'll take and grind up all kinds of stuff out of the refrigerator because they don't want to put it in their trash assuming that that's going to take it to your landfill but it's the slowest way to the landfill is through your plumbing system so I would suggest everything go into your garbage can so how do our listeners clean their drains what's the process so typically the best way to do this would be you know obviously contracting that service out with a qualified plumber in your area you know here specifically we offer many different drain cleaning services one of which we call our personal touch drain service which we put our cameras inside your drains we do a jetter system that we hydro jetting service that we do that will also make sure that your drains are clear and you know moving freely and then of course you might be you know one of the houses that has the older cast iron drains which those drains you know will definitely have a lot more of your problems and those one can need some descaling and we have the tools to descale your piping to hydrogen atom the cameras to make sure that the things are actually flowing a typical homeowner just putting chemicals inside your drains which I never recommend putting chemicals inside your drain to try to keep your drain moving you know smoothly it's a bad practice I would say that put yourself either in touch with a qualified you know plumbing technician in your area that that you trust and that can provide those services for you it's important everybody to take care of your drains you know what this reminds me Bob a little bit of when I go to the doctor and he says you know you really need to make sure that your arteries clear this is same type of thing with your plumbing whether it's your supply line or waste lines you've got to make sure you've got your plumbing running properly Bob thank you so much for joining me today thank you appreciate it check a Pro is your local source for pre-qualified contractors stay tuned for more of the check a pro radio show.
